Wondering if anyone knows something about this or has seen the guy before.
I was grabbing dinner in Lake City last night and saw a man open-carrying an assault rifle (AR-15/M16/similar). Black guy (medium with short dreads, probably in his late-20s to mid-30s, wearing a navy blue blazer. He had a small two-pocket ammo pouch with a green camo pattern and what looked like 90s-style wraparound Walkman headphones.
The first time I saw him, he was standing in the street (just off the curb) on 125th and Lake City and had the gun slung over his back. Took me by surprise and the whole vibe seemed off so I walked away and took a more circuitous route to the restaurant. About an hour later I was walking back from dinner and the same guy was on 125th in front of Senait Ethiopian Restaurant and it seemed like was in some sort of verbal confrontation with a homeless woman. He had the gun swung around to his hand and appeared to be holding the grip and gesturing with the gun– seemed like he was menacing her. I walked the other way and took the long way home.
I ultimately called 911 right after the incident because, although I think open carry is legal in the city, it seemed like he was menacing the homeless woman in a threatening manner. No idea what came of the call. I’ve lived in Lake City for more than a decade and that was the first time I’ve seen something like that around here.
Has anyone seen that guy before and/or know what his whole deal is? Is he a wannabe vigilante who is going around and menacing homeless folks in Lake City? The whole thing feels pretty unsettling because we’ve recently heard rapid gunfire late at night and there was a double homicide in Virgil Flame Park over the summer that I think is still unsolved.
