New Bike Lanes on the Waterfront

The new Seattle Waterfront bike lane is nearing completion, and progress on the Alaskan Way protected bike lane is visible with the cement barrier now in place. However, a curious feature has emerged: a mulch island sitting awkwardly between these two critical pieces of bike infrastructure. How exactly is this supposed to function? Surely, there’s a brilliant plan in place that I’m just not grasping. Seattle departments can’t be that incompetent. Right? RIGHT?!
