Them Before Us is a Seattle-based organization led by Katy Faust, whose mother came out as a lesbian when she was a child and divorced her father, although Faust insists that her current anti-LGBTQ+ activism is not just her acting out against her mother. She converted to Christianity a few years after her parents’ divorce, when she was in high school.
Them Before Us is also part of the Greater Than campaign, a coalition of over 50 anti-LGBTQ+ organizations pushing to have the Supreme Court overturn Obergefell v. Hodges, the 2015 decision that legalized marriage equality in all 50 states. The campaign launched after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, which showed that the Court would be willing to overturn its previous rulings and take away people’s rights.
In May, the Seattle Times reported that Hobby Lobby is a key funder of the coalition.
