Rehoming a Dog

Rehoming a Dog

I’m kind of at the end of my rope, so I’m posting here hoping someone, somewhere, wants a german shepherd dog. If it’s not allowed, sorry about that. I’m not asking for any money, I’m not selling her; I just want her to go to a good home. I can’t take her to a kill shelter, morally.

This is Ori. She is a year and a half old female German Shepherd in need of a permanent home. She has been spayed and is up-to-date on all vaccines (all medical records will be provided), and knows basic commands, including sit, lay down, paw/shake, and settle. She is also crate and house trained. Ori has been raring to go since the minute she entered this world, and would make an excellent running, camping, and hiking companion. She loves walks and plays hard; she still has all of that puppy energy that has her running laps around the yard. She plays well other dogs and her interactions with children over the age of 7 have been good. She has a hard time meeting new people, but when she is comfortable with a person, she is a cuddly little couch buddy. All she wants to do is sit against you and chew on her toys (and probably lick your hand for 20 minutes straight). She is so sweet and will make the perfect companion in the right home.

Ori is a classic GSD, for better or for worse – she has stranger danger anxiety and barks at unknown people – she has NEVER snarled, snapped, or moved to bite a person. Her transition into new environments with new people requires a lot of patience and positive reinforcement – luckily, she is easily bribed with treats. She plays well with other dogs, but would do best in a single dog home; the reason she is being rehomed is because she is very possessive of her people, and I have an older dog whose behavior is being negatively effected because of this. She has snapped and snarled at him when he comes near me. This possessiveness and potential aggression has only ever been shown towards other dogs in her home: she is completely fine when 2 people are interacting or when interacting with dogs outside. She lives with cats currently, but they are kept separated by baby gates – she doesnt seem super interested in them.

Ori is a great dog – she’s loving, loyal, and eager to please. Her sire and pregnant mother were rescued after being abandoned in a dog park, but luckily, Ori and her siblings were born in a foster home. Her brother has been DNA and health tested, which showed a 100% purebred German Shepherd lineage and congenital muscular disease that will affect him as he grows – Ori has not been health tested but she potentially carries this gene or may suffer from musculature problems common in GSDs as she grows older. I assume more people in this group have educated themselves on these potential problems, but I felt it important to share.

Ori deserves better than what I am capable of giving her, and I know there are plenty of people looking for a dog just like her. She’s a special little girl and if I didn’t have my older dog, I’d be keeping her; she’s just such a little love bug. I really hope there is someone here who is willing to take the time to get to know this sweet little girl. I am located in Northern King County but I am willing to drive pretty dang far to make sure Ori ends up with the right person. Please message me if you are interested!
