School didn’t contact me at all when my child was injured – ended up having a broken arm

Looking for advice on which steps to take going forward

My 6 year old Kinder was injured at school Monday 6/1 at first recess and I was never told about it by the school.

He was running down the outside steps and fell, scraping his knee badly and also breaking his arm (which no one knew at the time)

While there was no nurse on duty that day, one of the school attendants did help assist him. He is terrified of blood and the knee was his biggest concern apparently. Which checks out as he looses his shit at the site of blood.

It took an extended amount of time to calm him down (according to multiple sources) that he missed his entire recess – 15-20minutes, and had lunch with his older sister once finally calm – another 20-30 min. Then finally returned to class.

After school when going to his after school program, the school staff told his after care driver about the fall. It wasn’t until 5:30 when I picked him and his sister up from after care that the staff told me of the incident.

After thinking it was only a scrapped knee and sprained wrist but definitely swollen, we went home for the night. Iced it and gave him ibuprofen. The next morning (6/2) it was more swollen and he was in obvious pain so we went to urgent care where the confirmed it was a buckle fracture.

6/2) Tuesday night I emailed both his teacher and principal explaining the incident and the lack of communication or notice from the school raising major concerns. I have been emailed or contacted over bloody noses, falls on the play ground before. So this seems like one of those situations. I ask for a response from them acknowledging the negligence of contact in a situation my son was clearly emotionally disturbed by and in visual distress.

As of Friday morning I never got a response. I send a follow up at 8am asking for a response by end of day as the lack of process and now response is giving me more concern.

When we arrive at the school after we had head to get my son in a cast. The office attendant, nurse and the staff who attended to him the day of incident are in the main office. The attendant says “I had a gut feeling something was wrong with the way he was holding it.” Which I respond that I was very upset no one called to let me know he was hurt. The nurses face goes white and everyone gets quiet. I see the principal walking swiftly away from the hall into her office.

Then they quickly ask if he has any restrictions for activities and I give them the paper from ortho. I leave and wait till end of day for a response from someone.

Absolutely nothing.

So who do I contact now, do I call the principal before escalating? Do I bother escalating? I just want accountability and reassurance that any future injury for my child or any other child is properly handled.
