Seattle East Precinct and Police Department don’t care

On August 1, 2025, at approximately 9:50 PM, I experienced an attempted break-in at my apartment. The individual: a shirtless Hispanic male wearing shorts, shoes, and a prosthetic leg; tried to remove my Ring camera, ripped down signage from my door, and began pulling papers off neighboring tenants’ doors as well.

I spoke to him through the Ring camera and told him clearly and repeatedly to leave. He ignored me. He had an object that fit directly into my deadbolt, and it took a physical struggle on my part to pull the door open and get him away. He only walked away after I loudly threatened to call 911. He then continued to tamper with doors down the hallway and entered the elevator. I do not know where he went after that.

I called 911 at 9:58 PM. As of August 2, 2025, at 7:20 PM, no police officer has responded. I provided full details to the dispatcher, and the SPD event number is 25-218971. I have video footage of the entire incident from my Ring device.

The fact that Seattle Police Department never responded to an active break-in call is unacceptable and deeply disturbing. It feels as though my report was treated like a low-priority online complaint, rather than the emergency it truly was. This was not a disturbance; this was an attempted felony. I followed every proper step: I called 911 in real time, provided a suspect description, and I have video evidence. Still, SPD never showed up.

It’s become clear that SPD’s East Precinct is failing to respond unless there is media pressure or public attention. This neglect is contributing directly to the increase in crime across the city. When people like me are left completely unprotected, crime doesn’t just happen; it flourishes.

I can’t help but feel like I’m being dismissed because I am a disabled, low-income, white woman living in a LIHI building in the Central District. I’m scared. I’m angry. I’m tired of being ignored by the very institutions that claim to serve and protect.

What is it going to take for SPD to act? Someone being killed? A viral video? I refuse to be another statistic brushed aside. My life matters. My safety matters. And I deserve to feel safe in my home, just like anyone else in this city.
