Seattle Housing Authority had its federal funding for the Emergency Housing Voucher program- which helps cover rent for low-income or no-income Seattle residents- cut; federal funds run out in 2026 instead of 2030. Just got this in the mail today.

I have been on SSI since i was a teenager, and only recently was switched to Social Security income. Even with the major increase from SSI to Social Security benefits- I still do not make enough to afford my current low-income apartment, let alone anywhere else in the city. I was already homeless once as a teenager and while in my early 20s. Don’t know what I’ll do next year if SHA cannot cover me with a voucher anymore lol

I’ve lived in this state since I was extremely young and have nowhere else to go if I cannot live here, literally.

Anyway, just wanted to share this because I didn’t see any posts about it here (maybe I missed it, though.) Thousands of people will be homeless by next year in this city if federal funding isn’t reinstated, and it’s very unlikely the state can cover the gap with their budget issues…
