Went to Legally Blonde there yesterday. Went to Wicked at the Paramount a couple weeks ago and Mary Poppins at the Fifth. They were essentially the same caliber of performance imo, with the only difference being maybe some of the costume materials (hard to compete with Wicked on that tbh) and how sturdy the larger sets were. Overall, spectacularly done. The comedic timing of the cast was 10/10, especially impressive in a staccato ensemble number like Gay or European.* and everyone kept extremely high energy the whole show. Every ensemble member was putting in 110% and it showed. There was a fantastic live orchestra in the pit.
Absolutely worth the drive out to the suburbs. No Ticketmaster scams. I’m sure I’ll be back to Village Theater.
*As a queer millenial who imprinted on Avenue Q back in the day but realizes it has not really aged spectacularly in all aspects (though I remain affectionate for it) I was curious about how this number would come across. I thought it was fucking hilarious. I had no idea Warner had the line about the french lmao dude why
