Spider season life hack

Spider season life hack

I woke up this morning to find a huge spider leering down at me from the ceiling. I know a lot of you have been posting about similar experiences. I wanted to share with you a technique I’ve been using very successfully in capturing spiders humanely and in a way that is as stress free for arachnophobes.

Grabber tool. The one I have happens to be able to fit a jar in it’s clenches without having to squeeze down on the arms to hold it in place. Put jar over spider. If it’s in arms reach you can slide a piece of paper or cardboard to seal it. [Most of you probably know that trick]. But if it’s out of reach tap the jar on the ceiling or wall when it’s around the spider and it will usually fall. If that doesn’t work gently move the jar so the rim knocks the spider off the surface. I’ve had good luck with this but it has a risk of squishing it then you have smeared spider to clean up which, IMO is worse then live spider.

Once you lower the jar you can put a lid on it if escape seems likely. In my experience I am able to take it outside without having to cover it since scaling the walls of the jar doesn’t seem to be something the spider can do quickly. Being able to do this while keeping my 8 legged nemesis at a good distance has really lessened my dread of dealing with this. Hope this might be of help to some of you.
