A West Seattle Redditor posted about finding white fiber-like material, some as long as 1/2 inch in their water a few weeks ago. The Redditor paid for independent testing which told them the substance was “not a parasite, not hair, not anything that was ever alive, and non-microbial.” This week after weeks of badgering SPU to do their own tests, they finally were told “it’s just algae,” and it’s “ok to drink”. They also said it’s been happening for 15 years, yet residents have never seen this before. SPU can’t explain why this is contained to the apartment and the businesses below, one being a grocery store, and not affecting buildings nearby, if the area’s water comes from the same source. What recourse do they have?
