Howdy Y’all, I helped organize the Seattle Super Saunter back on May 17th and The West Seattle Saunter back on July 12th and have been so humbled by the sheer amount of folks willing to come for these longer walks around Seattle. Part of the inspiration for the saunter was the goal to get folks to see more of Seattle. We live in such a cool and interesting city with so much to see and do, but the same can also be said for our region. And although there are a couple of other saunters we plan to do in the city (thinking of a Phinney, Fremont (and Ballard) Frolic for October 18th), we thought for our next adventure we would visit our neighbors to the East. On September 6th around 9am, beginning at Bellevue Downtown Park The Eastside Escapade will commence taking folks through Bellevue, Kirkland, and Redmond over the span of 19 miles. The route will pass through quaint downtowns, farmland, neighborhoods, along Lake Washington and the Sammamish River, on beautiful trails, and finally finishing at Postdoc Brewing near Marymoor Park. The event is totally free and all are welcome! Understandably, maybe not everyone wants to come walk the whole 19 miles, so folks are welcome to join for 1 mile or all 19. There will be transit stations in Kirkland and Totem Lake that will allow for folks to join or leave at around mile 6 and mile 10 respectively. Similar to the saunters in Seattle the goal of the event is to encourage folks to walk, build community, and appreciate the wonderful region that we call home. An additional goal has been to encourage folks to use transit that they might not have otherwise tried. For the East Side Escapade folks we will finish near the new Marymoor village light rail station for the 2-line. Folks can use this to return to Bellevue, and if we end up doing this escapade the following year they would be able to take the 2-line all the way back to Seattle. For those using the bus to get to the start from Seattle consider the 271, the 550, the 556, or the 560. Other than the amazing people you will meet along the Eastside Escapade, the highlight of this route will be the great multi-purpose trails that will compose half of the route. The Eastrail and the Sammamish River trail are some of the best in our county, So I’m looking forward to trekking on them I know some of you are never leaving Seattle, but there may not be a better opportunity to explore some of what the Eastside has to offer than on what is sure to be a beautiful Saturday in September. Join our Heylo group to stay up to date. You can also sign up with this form. Feel free to check out our Instagram or learn more, our website. This is totally free and feel free to bring a friend! We hope to see all of you there, and I’m looking forward to traversing the Eastside with you all! submitted by /u/AnEvilPedestrian |
