The license plate thing — is this as much of a problem in other cities?

At this point, about 5% of the cars I see on the road have no license plate whatsoever — not just a dark tinted cover or one of those fake temp tags that are sold on FB marketplace.

I realize it’s weird to ask a question that’s essentially about other cities in a sub devoted to Seattle, but I’m just wondering — is this phenomenon widespread? Is it happening in NYC / Chicago / SF or other comparable cities? Is there anywhere that it’s not happening?
