The West Seattle Saunter (July 12th, 2025)
![]() |
Howdy Y’all, I helped organize the Seattle Super Saunter about a month ago and we are back with some more group walking adventures. Part of the inspiration for the saunter was the goal to get folks to see more of Seattle. We often stay comfortable in our own neighborhoods, and our beautiful hills and scenic water (as well as our busy highways) further serve to isolate us. The saunter allowed for folks to explore parts of the city that they might not otherwise have seen, and it brought me so much joy when someone would mention “I’ve never been here before.” And although I think we did a good job trying to include as much of the city as possible, there was one part of the city that I felt was going to be difficult to incorporate. A mysterious and foreign land that many tend to forget. West Seattle is a true treat and always a place I enjoy exploring when I get the chance. So in the spirit of making it up to West Seattle for not including them on the Super Saunter, I thought they deserved their own saunter, the West Seattle Saunter. The plan is to begin from the West Seattle Water Taxi Pier at 9am on July 12th (there is a water taxi leaving the mainland at 8:30am). From there we will make our way around West Seattle with stops planned at Alki, Lincoln Park, the highest point in the city, and then finishing at Alaska Junction where West Seattle Summer Fest will be underway. The planned saunter will be around 12 miles and around 800ft of elevation gain with all welcome. Additionally, similar to the super saunter if you would like to make your own route with the start point the Water Taxi and the end point Alaska Junction, you are more than welcome to. Lastly folks will also be able to join halfway through at Lincoln Park around 11:15-11:30am, in case they wanted a shorter distance. There may not be a better opportunity to explore everything West Seattle has to offer than on what is sure to be an idyllic Seattle Summer day in July. Join our Heylo group to stay up to date. You can also sign up with this form. Feel free to check out our Instagram as well. This is totally free and feel free to bring a friend! We hope to see all of you there, and especially those that were not able to make it out to the Super Saunter! submitted by /u/AnEvilPedestrian |
