Thief caught on camera prowling cars at Seattle Goodwill (Dearborn) 3/12 around 11:40 AM. Backpack with MacBook and personal documents stolen.

Hi everyone. I’m hoping someone might have seen something or comes across these items.

My car was prowled Thursday 3/12 around 11:40 AM at the Seattle Goodwill parking lot on Dearborn.

When I returned to my car, my backpack was gone and my glove compartment was open. The windows were intact and the car was locked when I came back, which was confusing. Goodwill security reviewed their cameras and confirmed that a man entered my passenger side around 11:40 AM.

The video I will post in the comments is a short snippet I recorded from the security footage. Before that moment in the footage, the same person was walking around the parking lot pretending to pick up trash while peeking into multiple vehicles.

He was wearing:

• red jacket

• blue pants

• gray baseball cap

Huge thanks to the Goodwill security staff who helped review the footage.

I called the police and filed a report online as instructed.

The items were inside a black Incase backpack. This is everything I can remember right now:

• Space Gray MacBook M1

• Logitech MX Master 3 mouse (gray)

• Torras portable charger (white)

• black square pouch with charging cables

• black folder with documents and photos (initials S.M.)

• two Japanese books (one red, one beige)

• eyeglass wipes

Inside the folder were also Japanese government documents, English resumes, and printed photos of my face. I believe my Washington food worker permit may also have been inside.

Some of these items I’ve had for over 10 years, so they mean a lot to me personally.

The MacBook also contains photos of my dad who passed away two years ago, which unfortunately I do not have backed up. I also realized afterward that I did not have Find My enabled on the laptop, which was a mistake on my part.

I’m currently in the middle of moving, which is why I had valuables with me that day. Unfortunately I left the backpack on the passenger side floor.

If anyone happens to see a backpack dumped nearby or recognizes the person in the video, I would really appreciate any information.

Even if the electronics are gone, getting the backpack, documents, or photos back would mean a lot to me.
