I just said this in another post but I want to make this heard…this is my experience with an “illegal”. I’m a union electrician. Working with big company and this dude Jorge was put on our crew.
Very broken English was my first impression of him.
I as a first year apprentice I was put with him. He couldn’t communicate very well what he was doing due to broken English and me not know any Spanish. Our verbal interactions entailed essentially “gatherer here look” and I watched what he did and tried to copy him on the next one.
This dude did MAGICAL electrical work. He was fast and his small tricks were lifesaving and amazing. As a 4th year apprentice to this day I still show up journeyman copying what he showed me. I’ve never seen to this day a more competent electrician.
3 days in they found out his SS number wasn’t valid and he was fired. I guess when he was told his response was “I’m surprised it took you this long to figure it out”. How badass is that?!
That’s who we’re gonna deport?! A good skilled worker who adds so much to the community and training green apprentices his skillset?! I get it if you’re a gang member or whatever but that’s not what’s happening. I hope to see him again later in my career but my heart goes out to him right now.
How is this “good for the economy”?! Someone please explain?!
