Today I learned about the Wedgwood Rock which is illegal to climb.
Please do not climb this rock! And definitely do not share pictures on Reddit of yourself climbing on this rock.
The rock has been a destination for picnickers and climbers for over a century. In response to complaints about hippies visiting the rock, the Seattle City Council passed an ordinance in 1970 making it a crime to climb the rock, punishable by a fine up to $100. This is still the law today.
The 1.5 million pound boulder is a glacial erratic, meaning that its mineral composition does not match its present surroundings and that it was carried here from Fidalgo Island (near Anacortes) by glacier movement during the last ice age 14,000 years ago.
