Late last night after No Kings, a group of about 30 people were protesting in front of the Federal building and the police posted up about a block away. Two guys, a taller Black guy and a shirtless white guy, wandered down to the police line and I followed to see what was going on. (I was wearing the sign holder rig with the “ABOLISH ICE is an American value” sign; that’s what’s making the persistent creaking noise in the video.)
At 0:28 the Black guy says “You’re a public servant” and raises his left hand beside his own head; it looks pretty clearly like a gesture for emphasis, not an attack, but that’s when the police tackled him to the ground. Or, watch the same clip but keep your eye on the shirtless white guy – he definitely didn’t do anything, but he got tackled at the same time.
The aftermath lasted several more minutes (with the police line advancing and knocking me down and breaking the sign rig, among other things), and I’m working on getting that full video, but for now, just watching this clip — doesn’t it look like the police just arrested two innocent people?
