Checked Uber prices from SeaTac to my house in Bellevue tonight after landing and it was $75. I walked to the airport light rail station and checked prices from there and it was $68, but I figured that might be due to randomness (or maybe because of you’re at the light rail station then Uber can pick you up without paying the airport fee?). But then I took it one stop to the Tukwila Int’l Blvd station, and the Uber home from there was only $55 – even though the drive time from those two locations would have been exactly the same.
I assume this is some combination of airport pickup fees and Uber’s system knowing that passengers at the airport are willing to pay more.
Now obviously if you live in Seattle proper and the light rail is still running when you land, you can save even more money by just… staying on the light rail. For me, riding the light rail any further would not have reduced the drive time home to Bellevue – but the fare still dropped $20 after taking one stop to avoid the airport upcharge.
