[UPDATE]: My stolen 2026 CR-V was recovered. I feel the car is contaminated and GEICO is pausing the settlement. I don’t want it back

Huge thank you to everyone for the support. I have a major update: GEICO had actually offered me the exact cost for which I bought the car, and I was about to sign. However, this morning I got a call from the police, they recovered the car.

I just visited the impound lot to see if I could find my personal stuff. It was a horrible experience. The car smells very bad, like heavy chemicals and smoke, and I’ve felt physically uneasy ever since I got home. GEICO has now paused the payout to “do their due diligence.” I am honestly devastated because this was my first car and I don’t feel safe in it anymore. I’m going to fight to keep the total loss settlement because of the contamination.
