Warning for People Looking for Junk Disposal Services

It seems like the common practice with a lot of the junk disposal services is to do a switcheroo when they arrive to take your stuff.

I sent them photos of the couch. They quoted me $269-319 over the phone. But when they got there, the estimate became $511. They said the new estimate was greater because the call center was in Florida, and they maybe don’t have the up to date pricing.

It might have been true, but I couldn’t help feel like they were trying to put me in a situation to say to myself, “Ah, they’re already here, just sign it and it’ll be over with!” So, I said no, sorry to have you come all this way out.

I say goodbye, go back inside. And not 5-minutes later, they text me that they “talked with their boss” and they were willing to do it for $319. It was at the top of their estimate, but I felt like sure, it was within the original price range I was willing to pay for.

tldr; These junk disposal companies will try to use a switcheroo method of getting you to pay more, don’t fall for it.
