Hey Seattle folks, just had a total nightmare trying to grab lunch at Chengdu Memory in the ID, and I need to vent/warn everyone because this feels like a straight-up scam setup. TL;DR: Parked in what I thought was their lot, with confusing signs, car towed one hour in with zero heads up, and paid $500 to get it back (Tow+2-hr-Storage+After Hours+Fees). Skip these spots unless you hate money. Or take transit. (I could have but was running late) The lot is at 5th & Jackson. 500 S Jackson St, Seattle, WA 98104. Apparently the spot is for a neighboring Chinese restaurant (Ten Seconds Yunnan Rice Noodles) and I should have parked a couple of stalls over. This could have been a ticket, but nope. I’ve filed complaints with Seattle FAS and King County District Court over signage violations (RCW 46.55.070 requires clear, visible warnings near entrances.) Might dispute the card charge too. The only sign that does mention towing (with clear indication of when towing could happen according to the law) was small, not very readable and hang in an obscure location. Is this a new pattern? I’ve been calling Seattle home for 14 years and this is my first time running into this. If this is how ID works I can see why people try to avoid it.
