A while ago, I posted about loud cars and motorcycles in Bellevue. At first, I thought I might just be overly sensitive to the noise, but after seeing so many others speak up, I’m glad to know I’m not alone.
I did some research and found that New York uses noise cameras, automated systems that detect excessively loud vehicles, modified mufflers, or excessive honking, similar to speed cameras. Fines range from $800 to $2,500 when noise exceeds 85 decibels. I shared this idea earlier and am glad to see more discussion around it now.
It’s encouraging to see police taking action, but car meets, loud revving, and reckless driving are still happening. Noise cameras could help support enforcement and reduce the burden on police.
What are your thoughts?
