I first wanna start out by saying that I love Seattle and I’m very lucky to live here. With that being said, I feel like Seattle events and third places lack true connection connections with strangers and restaurants and cafes are becoming very lazy.
I also want to say that I’m still in college and I feel like there’s a lot of information about events that I don’t even know where to begin to start looking! I want to do more community outreach in volunteering, jazz, ceramics, woodworking (I’m part of the tool library), book clubs, open mics, comedy clubs, and more collaborative or art related markets.
Most interactions I have out in town have people that are genuinely disinterested in communicating with and acknowledging other people’s’ existence. When I do stumble upon cool places that put on live events, it is mostly for people within their little niche. And most events are just friend group events. Like nobody is there alone.
I have friends, but I am in the market for new experiences and friends in new communities, and want to really expand my community. The Seattle freeze just feels more and more real every year that goes by that I live here.
Side note: Moving here definitely made me a coffee snob, but most coffee shops to me are oversaturated and use so much sugar and don’t pull proper artisanal espresso. Vivace and oxbow are the only consistent pull around here and I honestly don’t understand how much I’d rather have my own coffee at home than pay so much for a shitty coffee – there’s a difference between companies that really invest time into curation and the artistry. Same goes for food!!! Where’s the good food these days?
LASTLY, I love the libraries. The city needs better facilities and accommodations for unhoused people. I love that the libraries can provide that, but how does Seattle not see this as an issue? Why are they not concerned about civic infrastructure expansion????
Any good study place ideas? Cafes, restaurants, co-ops, libraries, book stores, anything untraditional or underground? Looking to explore.
Thanks for reading if you did
