Two days ago, I visited the Costco in SoDo on 4th Avenue South and had one of the best experiences I have had in a store. Costco and Whole Foods are easily my two favorite places to shop now, and both always show me nothing but kindness.
What made this visit stand out happened right as I was leaving. I stopped to talk to the gentleman checking receipts and jokingly asked if he remembered my name, even though I had never told him before. He did not, so I introduced myself as Uncle Jassy. He smiled, thanked me for telling him, and as I walked out he called out, “I love you, Uncle Jassy,” with the biggest smile.
That moment genuinely made my day, my week, my month, and maybe even my year. I have never had an employee say something that warm to me before. And this was not my first positive interaction with him either. A gentleman named Peter has been the same every time I have visited. He is always upbeat, friendly, welcoming, and making kids laugh with the smiley faces he draws on receipts.
People like that bring a lot of joy to a simple grocery run. I am grateful I got to experience it, and I am looking forward to many more trips to the SoDo Costco.
