Visiting the elderly?

This is random but it’s been on my mind and who knows, maybe one of you works at a care facility or something.

When I was little my mom used to volunteer reading the Bible to elderly folks at nursing homes whose vision was gone. She’d also just go in a visit those who were lonely. She’d bring me along when she visited people who liked kids and I know it brought them a lot of joy. I have very clear memories of being 8-10 and walking down the hallway of a sad nursing home and a woman calling to me from her wheelchair in her room begging me to come talk to her saying she had mints she would share. I’ll never forget the loneliness that pulsed in those places.

I’d like to do the same now that I have a cute baby and other young kids. Either go on my own to visit, keep them company and in time bring my kids to visit with those who show interest.

Anyone know how to get involved in something like this? We’re a normal family living in north cap hill, but my kids grandparents live overseas and they only see them every few years. We have a lot of love to give so I think it would benefit all around.

Thanks for any guidance or ideas!
