I happened upon this mural in progress last week at 18th and Yesler. Muralist Lawrence Pitre (@lcpitrefineart) says the piece has no official title but he’ll be writing “KNOW YOUR VOTE COUNTS” and “HEALTH CARE FOR ALL” inside the balloons so “Know Your Vote Counts” may end up being the unofficial name. The work is being funded by Washington Community Action Network (which is located right around the corner) and Soulful Dishes gave permission for it to be painted on the west wall of their building. Lawrence said depending on the weather it will probably be all finished soon after Thanksgiving. He said the kid with the backpack reaching for the balloon was a last-minute addition — a kid walked up while he was working on the mural and asked if he could be a part of it so Lawrence painted him into the mural.
