Creep tried to get me to go into his car

I was walking in the CID at 1:30 AM last night returning from a friend’s place who also lives around here.

A man pulled up to me in an area without any businesses around, without any nearby residences, no phone on the dash, nothing. (Yes my first thought was “is he doing rideshare?”)

He pulls up alongside me and beckons me to get in and asks “want a ride?”. Does not ask me my name, does not do any standard rideshare stuff, definitely does not seem like he’s a Good Samaritan. He sounded slightly intoxicated.

I said no, and walked to a lit area in front of a bank, so I would be in view of cameras.

He drove off very slowly, turning around. I look back and he appeared to have tried to get someone else (who appeared to be a transient but was hard to tell) to come into his car from another closed bank. The other person also appeared to have refused, as they did not enter.

He pulled to the end of the road and stopped. I went inside and did not see where he went after.

I talked to my friend, and showed her a photo of the vehicle. Apparently, from what she told me, she said this guy does this to her regularly and she said he prowls around here a lot.

I reported it to the police and they have a case open as a suspicious person. The cop told me that the best move I could have made was not to enter that vehicle as there was a good chance I would have been a victim. Which… duh. But I’m sure someone would say “what if he was just trying to be nice???” because some people don’t understand how the world works.

I usually have zero problems around here. What the Hell.
