Went to Revel for dinner recently with a group from work. It was a work dinner.
We asked the server if alcoholic drinks could be placed on a separate tab. Reimbursement rules at work are such that alcohol is not reimbursable, so having two separate receipts makes things easier. The server informed us that they “don’t do separate tabs”.
I understand restaurants that don’t do separate tabs to avoid every single person in a large group to request separate payment. But declining to split the cost into TWO receipts in a restaurant where they automatically add a 20% gratuity that you cannot change?? No wonder people are not eating outside.
EDIT to add that food was delicious. But our server acted like she was doing us a favor for as much as taking our order.
