This is the Satsop nuclear plant (WNP-3) in Elma, Washington. Construction started in the 70s, and after two decades and billions of dollars, the whole project got cancelled before it ever produced a watt of power. The wild part? The cooling tower is still standing, 40 years later, right in the middle of what’s now a working business park. You turn a corner past some office buildings and this 480-foot concrete giant just… appears. I spent a morning photographing it and honestly it’s one of the most surreal locations I’ve ever pointed a camera at. The scale doesn’t come through until you’re standing at the base looking up. Shot on a Sony A7 III. Happy to answer any questions about access or the history. submitted by /u/SnipzarZero |
