In memory of the Belltown Funky Studios

In memory of the Belltown Funky Studios

I lived in the historic Wayne Apartments (then known as the Belltown Funky Studios) from the start of September 2019 through December 2020, shortly before they were torn down.

I don’t actually regret it. They were honest with me–you’ll be here for a year and a half or so, then we’ll pay you to move out. I got the tenant relocation assistance money when I left. The landlord was, obviously, a despicable slumlord, but I rarely had to interact with him, and just like the property manager said when he was showing me the unit, I came away with a lot of stories.

My apartment was right on top of the back of Lava Lounge and immediately next to the patio of Neon Boots, so until the COVID lockdowns hit, I’d drift off to sleep atop a roar of noise that I could physically feel. Fortunately I had good sleep meds.

Anyway, it was $850/month for a one-bedroom in the heart of Belltown in 2019. I’m okay with the deal I got.

Here’s some pictures I took to document this historic building. I really wish I’d had a good camera and more time and resources to expand on that project. The place felt haunted by the ghost of itself.
