WEST SEATTLE CRIME WATCH: Eight arrested in Westwood Village shoplifting crackdown

If you listen to police radio, you know a day seldom goes by without at least one dispatch to Westwood Village for shoplifting. The Southwest Precinct counts it as one of their “emphasis” locations. And every so often, they announce a targeted operation resulting in arrests. This weekend, SPD released a short summary revealing one of those happened this past Monday (October 26):

At 1100 hours, GIU Detectives and Southwest Patrol Officers conducted a joint Organized Retail Theft Operation at Westwood Village. Detectives teamed with loss prevention representatives to identify and apprehend suspects. Eight suspects were arrested for shoplifting. $3,200 in stolen merchandise was recovered. This was a team effort and could not have taken place without GIU detectives, patrol, and partnership with the loss prevention employees at Westwood Village.

GIU = General Investigation Unit; loss prevention = store security. We’ll check with prosecutors Monday to see if anyone has been charged.
