We see you

I want to say to all the trans community members of Seattle today, we see you. As a veteran of the culture wars of the 90s, it’s a special kind of pain to have to watch other people vote in your right to exist, to feel it’s okay to express their opinion about YOUR life, to be talked about as if you are not the full person you are.

I am not going to explain why people in this state voted the way they did. I’m not going to tell you they are just misguided.

No one’s rights or humanity should be in the ballot.

638 will likely never become law but that is cold comfort. An ugly vote happened yesterday. Nothing going forward changes that.

I hope others will put messages of support here. Yesterday was historic in so many ways and I don’t want real human pain to get lost in both our celebrating and our anger.

Trans rights are human rights. Girls rights are human rights.
