I’m in my 30s and realizing I don’t always have a clear sense of what’s “normal” for socializing at this age. I value connection but understand what’s sufficient is different for everyone.
For me, sometimes I’ll go weeks without making plans, and other times (especially in the summer) I’ll see friends weekly or every other week. Once the darker months roll in, it drops off a lot.
Day to day, I still get a lot of casual socialization, whether it’s random run ins with neighbors, conversations with coworkers, but most of my hobbies during the week are solo, so actual hangouts don’t happen unless I make an effort to schedule them.
I also don’t feel a big pull to socialize during the week, so weekends are the main window. And those can slip by easily if I haven’t planned ahead, and before I know it I could easily go weeks without having made plans. At some point it usually catches up to me, and I realize I haven’t been prioritizing time with friends as much as I’d like.
What I’m curious about for others my age: – Do you feel like you’re swimming in invitations and plans, or is it more something you have to consciously prioritize? – How often are most of you actually spending scheduled time with friends in a typical month?
