I don’t buy the excuse that people voted “Yes” on IL26-638 because they couldn’t understand the wording. Please help me understand how this could possibly be confusing.

I attached a picture of IL-638 on a ballot for reference (though sadly it was a “Yes” vote)

In response to the transphobic ballot initiatives that passed (both in Washington and in other states, including my home state of Arizona), I’m seeing some of people say that the wording of the propositions was confusing, and that a lot of people voted FOR the proposition thinking that it would protect trans girls.

I don’t buy this excuse. First of all, the wording of the propositions is pretty straightforward. What part of this could possibly be misleading? Is it the fact that trans women are called “biologically male”? You’d think someone who was voting to protect trans women would pick up what it meant.

Second, even if the wording of the proposition was confusing, there was plenty of reliable sources online that you could look to online (such as the ACLU).

In all seriousness, if someone who voted “Yes” on this proposition not realizing that it was meant to ban trans girls from sports and subject cis girls to medically invasive tests, can you please explain what part of this mislead you?
