monthly passes for “infrequent” regular riders?

The current pass system is set up on the assumption that regular riders make 10 trips week (43 trips per month); and you need to make MORE THAN 8 trips a week in order for the pass to be worthwhile. With the number of people working hybrid and commuting 2 or 3 days a week this is a lost opportunity to get drivers onto busses through discounted passes, and even people that commute 4 days a week might only get the pass if they also go on non-commute trips frequently.

“full use” of a commuter pass gives a roughly 10% discount, so why not retain that for less used passes? The easy way would be to have passes that are cheaper but only work for [x trips/month] instead of being unlimited. As an example you could sell 18/26/35/unlimited use passes at 40/60/80/100 percent of the normal fare cost – so a “35 use 2.75 pass” would be $79.20 for a 4-day commuter.

just a thought!
