Northbound I-405 CLOSING in Kirkland this weekend (June 27-30)

Northbound I-405 CLOSING in Kirkland this weekend (June 27-30)

Incoming, Kirkland! We closed northbound I-405 two weekends ago between Renton and Bellevue, now it’s your turn! Happening this Friday night through Monday morning, so start planning ahead for a big closure. Here’s what’s coming:

All lanes of northbound I-405 in Kirkland will be closed between Northeast 70th Street (milepost 17) and Northeast 124th Street (milepost 20) starting as early as 11:55 p.m. Friday, June 27, lasting through 4 a.m. Monday, June 30. A signed detour will be in place.

The following on- and off-ramps will also be closed:

  • Northbound I-405 on-ramp from Northeast 70th Place/116th Avenue Northeast
  • Northbound I-405 on-ramp from Northeast 85th Street
  • Northbound I-405 off-ramp to Northeast 85th Street (Exit 18)
  • Northbound I-405 off-ramp to Northeast 116th Street/Northeast 124th Street/Totem Lake Boulevard (Exit 20A&B)

A map of the I-405 corridor in the city of Kirkland. Marked by orange lines is the full closure of all lanes of northbound I-405 between Northeast 68th Street/Northeast 70th Place (milepost 17) and Northeast 124th Street (milepost 20). Southbound I-405 will remain open. The detour route, marked by purple lines and arrows, is to exit at Northeast 70th Place, head north on 116th Avenue Northeast, east on Northeast 80th Street, then back north on 124th Avenue Northeast for a while, then west on Northeast 124th Street (milepost 20) before rejoining northbound I-405.

This work is weather-dependent and is subject to change. We mentioned at the beginning of the summer that construction was going to ramp up quickly, now here we are! Crews will work on paving I-405 to the new Northeast 85th Street bridge, as part of the I-405/Northeast 85th Street Interchange and Inline Station Project. Expect significant weekend congestion and delays due to construction. Plan extra travel time along the detour, travel during off-peak hours when passing through the area, or even better, use alternate routes like I-5 if you’re heading from Tukwila. Nearby residents may experience noise, dust, and vibrations from this work.
