I’ve had depressive symptoms my entire life including seasonal affective disorder-ish patterns. I’ve lived in several regions of the country and for the most part, winter sky gives me sad feelings. The brown foliage probably contributes.
But here, the sky is mostly grey and there is more green in the landscape. The short days zap my energy but the vibes aren’t sad. This is my second winter in Seattle and I feel just like I did this time last year. My theory is that the light spectrum and color palette being so different stops my usual winter feelings. But I never hear anyone else describing anything similar.
Is this just a me thing or do others relate? I’m curious if there is some biological mechanism for this experience or if it’s tied to my specific emotional baggage.
