hello! i work for a dental clinic as a front desk person and there was a time where i had a personal emergency and messaged my supervisor 2 hours before my shift started to let her know i needed to take the day off and i was willing to take it as an unpaid day.
my supervisor said i was not allowed to take an unpaid day off and that my sick hours would be applied to the day or else i would get written up since we need to give AT LEAST 1 week notice to use our sick hours.
anyways, my own temporary crown (which i got done today) came off, so i am going to have to call off work at least for a couple hours on Monday since my own dentist is not open for 4th of july or for the weekend, and i am planning on going back into work after that gets solved.
i know my supervisor is going to call me out on not giving that “1 week notice” to use my sick hours, and i will most likely get written up for it.
is this actually even a thing? how can someone predict when they will have an emergency or if they will get sick the week before?
also, ironically my supervisor has had emergencies where she has called out the day before or the morning of our shift so…
