No salmon to be seen in the fish ladder at the moment, but just past the visitor center, there is an Edgeworthia chrysantha (aka paperbush) in bloom. It smells like heaven! In fact, I got a whiff of it as soon as I came through the gates. Hold on to the memory of that lovely smell as you cross the locks and walk quickly under the rookery, because all the rain hasn’t yet lessened the stench over there! We did see a whole bunch of Barrow’s Goldeneyes, a new bird for me. The locks are fun rain or shine, and you never know what you’ll find! submitted by /u/Doraellen |
