So a few days ago, I walked to the bus late at night and through a series of circumstances I crossed the street and used a sidewalk I didn’t typically use. It was pitch black and I didn’t see that the sidewalk had buckled almost 5″ – resulting in my (over fifty, overweight self) stubbing my toe and tumbling head over heels .. I managed to catch myself, but my palms took a beating and were scabbed.
The next day, I went walking in the day and saw the sidewalk I had tripped on the night before. I realized it was dangerous and thought “I should report this” so I did! I tried “find it fix it” but it didn’t have a thing for “sidewalks” – I tried anyway.. I did a quick search and the City of Seattle page mentioned if you have a problem with a sidewalk… thing.. so I filled that out as well..
So tonight (the NEXT DAY after I submitted my report) .. we were walking to the bus, and the sidewalk I had tripped on the night before??? IT WAS REPAIRED!!! The 5″ upheaval has been tempered with asphalt and is sloped in a way that prevents the fall I took!
SERIOUSLY, THANK YOU SEATTLE!!! Thank you SO very very much for hearing me, for reacting, for enabling me to feel that I am helping, that I am part of a community. Thank you so much.
I hope every worker involved that resulted in this random sidewalk being repaired, reads this, and knows that they are appreciated. you rock!
