I’ve been starting to look for a place of my own. It’ll be my first home, and so the budget is not crazy high. I was previously mostly only looking at condos because of the lower price, and also that I’m totally blind, so easier upkeep and many condos are closer to light rail stations. That said, now that I’m looking more closely at things, value of condos seem to be slipping non stop for a while now. That, plus the HOA makes it feel like you are having a cheap rent instead of owning your own place. For those of you who are looking for your first home, would you be shooting for a condo now, maybe under 400k or so, or be patient and save up a little and shoot for those smaller houses in the 700 to 800k range? They seem to hold value better and have very low to no HOAs.
