I just landed a great union job in Seattle starting around $95K/year, with a 7-year progression to roughly $150K. I’m relocating from out of state and will also have about $7K in relocation assistance.
My biggest hurdle is credit. I went through a financially difficult few years and have some negative history, including old credit-card defaults. My situation has changed significantly with this new job, and I’ll finally have the income and stability to pay down debt and rebuild my credit.
I’m 36 and looking for my own place — roommates really aren’t an option for me anymore.
I’m looking for a 1- or 2-bedroom in Seattle or the surrounding area and can provide an offer letter/proof of employment, income, and relocation funds. I’m also willing to consider a larger deposit or other reasonable options if needed.
Does anyone know of apartment complexes, smaller property managers, private landlords, or second-chance rental resources that are more flexible about credit history when the applicant has strong current income?
I’m not looking for anything fancy — mainly somewhere safe, reasonably priced, and within commuting distance of Seattle.
Any firsthand recommendations would be hugely appreciated.
