Sharp Uptick in Homeless Encampments

The warm weather has brought encampments back to their full amount. Cal Anderson’s play field is largely covered in tents, trash, and drug users. Volunteer has a dozen+ residents up at the north end. Almost every grocery store in cap hill has some dedicated ‘residents’ living just outside. Seward park, Magnuson, Green Lake, Madrona, Fink, the Arboretum, every single park during the summer turns into a homeless camp.

At what point do we hold the city accountable for allowing this to happen? Our public spaces are being taken from us during the months we want to enjoy them. Do I have a solution? Of course not, it’s a complex situation. But the city seems to continue spending millions hiring people who are supposed to address the situation and yet nothing gets done.
