City of Seattle employees – is this the time to start employment with the City?

I recently interviewed at the City of Seattle. If I’m offered the job, it sounds like there’s a 12 month probationary period. Considering the City has an enormous budget deficit, if there are cuts, I’m worried that I would be the first to be laid off. Can anyone say which departments would likely receive the bulk of cuts, or perhaps, can offer any insight as to how cuts might unfold? I currently have job security and am reluctant to give up a sure thing.
