The weekend game plan: Football, detours and a full SB I-405 closure in Bothell (Oct. 9–12)

We’ve got Seahawks football, Huskies football and… a full closure of southbound I-405 in Bothell. Not exactly the tripleheader anyone asked for.

Whether you’re heading to the game or just trying to get where you need to go this weekend, you’ll want a game plan before hitting the road.

Here’s the play-by-play:

SOUTHBOUND I-405 FULL CLOSURE IN BOTHELL

All lanes of southbound I-405 will close between SR 527 and SR 522 from 10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9, to 4 a.m. Monday, Oct. 12.

The following southbound ramps will also close:

  • SR 527 on-ramp to southbound I-405
  • Northeast 195th Street on- and off-ramps
  • SR 522 off-ramp from southbound I-405

Crews will use this closure to work on drainage, pavement reconstruction and bridge repair as part of the I-405/Brickyard to SR 527 Improvement Project.

WHAT ABOUT THE DETOUR?

A signed detour route will be in place, but expect additional traffic on surrounding roads as travelers find alternate routes.

ALSO ON THE WEEKEND LINEUP: REVIVE I-5

If your travels take you through Seattle, the northbound I-5 express lanes will also close overnight this weekend:

  • Friday, Oct. 9: 11 p.m. to 8 a.m. Saturday
  • Saturday, Oct. 10: 11 p.m. to 8 a.m. Sunday
  • Sunday, Oct. 11: 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday

Crews will use these closures to complete drainage work underneath the Ship Canal Bridge. The two right lanes of northbound I-5 and the southbound express lanes across the bridge also remain closed around-the-clock.

GAME-DAY TRAFFIC

The Huskies host Iowa on Friday, Oct. 9, and the Seahawks take on the 49ers at Lumen Field on Sunday, Oct. 11. Between game-day traffic and construction, expect longer travel times around Seattle.

The game plan? Check your route before leaving, give yourself plenty of extra time and don’t count on your usual drive taking its usual amount of time.
